I was awakened by a soft touch on my cheek. It was my baby! They showed me his genital and asked what was the gender. It's a boy weighed 2.75kg. The specialist already cut his tali pusat and wrap him with a towel. When I held him for the first time, I was quite blank. No special feeling at the moment but only felt that now I am someone's mother!
A nurse squeezed my breast and some milk came out. But I was far from knowing how to nurse my baby. Both of my legs also very numb so I couldnt move as I pleased. They put baby on a crib but then he cried, I asked to put him with me again. I tried to nursed him but felt very hard, with my body still very weak and numb and the urge to sleep still very strong.
We both then pushed into the High Dependency Ward (HDW). Then my parents, husband and my younger sister Fara went there. To my relief, one of the nurse in the ward was my junior in high school. I was half asleep. Afterwards I learnt that I was injected with magnesium sulphate solution for 24hours in order to prevent unwanted effects of high bp.
Oh I forgot to mention that I was having caesarean for severe pre-ecclampsia.
In the ward I learnt how to nurse my baby, ah yi came and helped me to pump my breastmilk and gave baby drink from a cup. The whole colostrum was given by cup. Parents & inlaws came almost everyday, friends and colleagues came with presents, my younger brother alex gave special food from the hosp kitchen.
But for 24hours I could barely eat anything. Sikit-sikit makan atau minum, muntah. That was the aftermath of caesarean. The magnesium sulphate injection also made me feeling hot & ithcy. It was the weakest time of my life.
M baby was asleep most of the time. The baby beside us crying very loud but he was not disturbed. He had no eyebrow nor eyelashes. I guess it was the form of 36 weeks baby. But after 24hours my tears started to flow non stop. It was when baby was admitted to NICU level 1 because he wasnt pooping after 24hours. Gone was the exclusive breastfeeding as he was fed with formula as my milk still very low.
The night baby was at the NICU I couldnt sleep a bit. I knew then that I was already acted like a mother. All my family members came to NICU to check on baby but only the baby's parents were allowed to enter. Fortunately Alex can enter bcos of his uniform.
So after the magnesium sulphate injection completed and the urine tube been removed, I went to the toilet to clean up. It was very difficult to walk. I couldnt stand straight as the wound still very fresh. Later on a doctor came to remove the bandage from my wound and spray it. No stitches to remove.
Baby was send down to me at late afternoon. He already injected with BCG & hep B & jaundice checked. We then transferred to Room 1, Kenanga 2 ward. I stayed there for another 5 days.
Baby's jaundice was up to 250 so he was send to NICU again for lamp. I forgot the real word. I pumped my milk to send to him even at midnight. Sometimes very tiring but I can tahan as long as I can see baby. If I can count my tears, maybe a tank can be filled bcos I cried almost everytime. But I made friend with my roomates so the sadness didnt really sunk in.
My husband came everyday on every visiting hours. Jauh juga tu Donggongon to hosp. God bless him. Everyday since I gave birth my mom in law cooked sup ayam kampung with red dates for me. Even rice also from home. The red dates were very good for milk booster so my milk 's supply increased day by day.
